On the fence about whether to try your hand at creating your own product images, Reels or digital marketing or outsourcing this part of your content creation to someone else (say, Shout + Co….)?

Here are some frequently asked questions we get all the time from new clients, just to show you how it all works!


HOW DO YOU GET ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED FROM ME TO START THE JOB OR QUOTE IT UP?
To kick off the process, we send you a pretty extensive brief to get a good understanding of your business and how you’d like it to show up in your imagery. We gather all sorts of information from you like what your brand colours are, what aesthetic you’re looking for, where you’re planning on using the images so we can ensure we give you the correct image orientation, when you need the images by, and so on. There’s even a place to upload any relevant documents or files, as well as a spot for you to share a link to a Pinterest moodboard. We then quote the project using this information - or if the budget has already been confirmed, we refer to it throughout your shoot.


HOW DO YOU PRICE UP A PROJECT?
There are 2 key ways we do this:

(1) You give us your budget and we share with you how far it can stretch in relation to your brief
(2) We share a projected fee with you based on the outputs you’ve highlighted in your brief

Either way, the fee we lock in always needs to take into account a few factors:
+ How long we forecast the job will take based on previous experience of similar jobs
+ Time required to source ingredients or consumables
+ The complexity of the outputs required
+ Labour
+ How many resources we’ll need to deliver on the brief, e.g. models, camera assists, assistants, project manager, etc.
+ Travel time, where relevant
All projects are unique so there’s no one-quote-fits-all approach unfortunately!

DO WE GET ALL THE IMAGES IN ONE GO?
We always start with a couple of test shots to make sure that we’re capturing the brand in the way you envisaged. Once those test shots have been approved, we then go into full production. Depending on how many outputs you’ve specified, we either send you the balance of the images all at the same time (if the number of outputs is relatively low), or we send them to you in batches as we work through the shot list (if the number of outputs is relatively high).


CAN I GET THE IMAGES IN MULTIPLE ORIENTATIONS?
Yup! You can specify in your brief whether you’d like your imagery in square / landscape / portrait, or if you have specific dimension requirements, we can provide the outputs accordingly!


SHOULD I INCLUDE REFERENCE IMAGES IN MY BRIEF?
Yes please! We’re visual people, so seeing your reference images as part of your brief gives us a real sense of the aesthetic you’re after. It’s often easier to use a pic of something you’ve seen on social media or Pinterest to share your vision than to try and distill it down into words.


WHAT IS YOUR TURN AROUND TIME?
We generally ask for 10 business days from the day after we receive your products or samples. However, if you need any images urgently, we are happy to work that into our production schedule to turn them around faster - but we do charge a hustle fee for this.


CAN I ADD TO MY BRIEF?
Absolutely! We find many clients bolt on other outputs to their brief as the project progresses, like Reels or GIFs. The fee obviously changes to accommodate that - but we’re happy to spend more time on your brief to deliver additional outputs.


DO WE NEED TO GIVE YOU A BRIEF EACH TIME WE WORK WITH YOU?
Not necessarily. If you’re needing us to shoot more content for you weeks or months down the line, provided the brand hasn’t shifted its proposition or positioning, we can refer back to your previous brief for information or guidance.


HOW DO WE GET OUR PRODUCTS TO YOU TO SHOOT?
You can either visit us in our North Shore studio in Auckland or you can courier your products to us! In your brief, you can specify whether you’d like the products returned to you after the shoot, in which case we’ll send them back once the shoot is complete and the invoice has been settled!

ARE THERE ANY CATEGORIES OF PRODUCTS YOU DON’T WORK WITH?
Nope! We’ve worked with everything from funeral caskets right through to dog food. We do add a small charge to work with large items (like mattresses) however as they require a few people to move them around the studio, as well as space to store the products while we work through the shoot.


DO YOU SHOOT IN RAW?
Yes we do!


COULD WE GET THE RAW FILES?
We prefer not to hand over the RAW files as they’re unedited and not the ideal finished product. If you’re needing the RAW files for a specific reason, chat to us at the start of the project!


ARE THE IMAGES WE GET FROM YOU HI-RES?
Absolutely! Every lifestyle we provide is a hi-res file, meaning that it’s at least 1MB in size and usable across various end uses, including print. Clear cut product images will be a lower file size given the reduced amount of data contained in the file, but they’ll still be top quality outputs! If you’d like your outputs in super hi-res like .tif, we’d be happy to provide those too - just let us know in your brief!
